Building on Experience. Planning for the Future.
The next four years will bring new challenges, opportunities and important decisions for Goderich.
The priorities of the next Council will not necessarily be the same as those we faced in 2022.
We need to be prepared to adapt, ask questions, listen carefully and make thoughtful decisions that balance today’s needs with the long-term future of our community.
My focus will continue to be on responsible municipal spending, infrastructure, community services, thoughtful growth, communication and listening to the residents of Goderich.
Responsible Municipal Spending
Municipal budgets affect every resident and every business.
Council has a responsibility to carefully manage tax dollars, understand the numbers and establish priorities.
We cannot do everything at once.
At the same time, postponing necessary work can sometimes result in even greater costs in the future.
I will continue to ask questions, consider the long-term implications of our financial decisions and work toward a responsible balance between affordability and investing in our community.
Infrastructure
Roads, water, sewer, municipal buildings and other infrastructure are among the most important responsibilities of municipal government.
They may not always be the most exciting things to talk about, but they affect our lives every day.
We need to maintain what we have, plan for future needs and make strategic investments before today’s small problems become tomorrow’s expensive ones.
Thoughtful Growth
Goderich is a wonderful place to live, work, visit and invest.
As our community grows and changes, we should welcome opportunities that strengthen our town while respecting what makes Goderich special.
Growth needs to consider infrastructure, municipal services, neighbourhoods, businesses and the long-term needs of our community.
I want Goderich to continue to be a community where people want to live, work, raise their families, build businesses and visit.
Strong Community Services
Municipal services contribute directly to our quality of life.
Our roads, recreation facilities, parks, emergency services, public spaces and community facilities all matter.
Council must continually evaluate how services are delivered, what residents need and how we can provide those services responsibly.
I will continue to support services that help make Goderich safe, welcoming and vibrant.
Communication & Transparency
Municipal government can sometimes seem complicated.
Residents deserve to understand what Council is discussing, why decisions are being considered and how those decisions may affect them.
I believe communication is an important part of being a Councillor.
I will continue to share information, encourage residents to ask questions and work to make municipal government easier to understand.
Listening to Residents
One of the most important parts of this role is listening.
I will not always agree with every opinion I hear.
Residents will not always agree with every decision I make.
And that’s okay.
Respectful disagreement is part of a healthy community and a healthy Council.
Listening doesn’t always mean agreeing. It means being willing to hear and understand another point of view.
Always Learning
I believe curiosity makes us better decision-makers.
Municipal government is constantly changing. New information, legislation, technology, funding opportunities and community needs can change the way we approach an issue.
I will continue attending meetings, conferences and educational opportunities that help me better understand the issues facing Goderich and municipalities across Ontario.
There is always something new to learn.

If I am fortunate enough to serve another term:
I will listen.
I will ask questions.
I will do my homework.
I will continue learning.
I will treat people with respect.
I will make the best decisions I can with the information available.
And I will continue working hard for Goderich.
